Patton appears with Sepultura again!

Sepultura re-recorded the "Kodo"-track off AGAINST called "Kamaitachi" with Mike Patton being responsible for lyrics/vocals. This version might be available later on a b-side for an upcoming single.

Also, on October 2nd, 1998 Mike Patton and Jello Biafra joined Sepultura on stage to perform some songs with them in San Francisco!
And in related news, Igor Cavalera (Sepultura's drummer) will play on the upcoming Mike Patton solo project. The ex-Faith No More frontman has asked Igor to guest on this new project which is said to be in a pop vein.

Mr. Bungle is Back

After a 4 year hiatus, Mike Patton's original band, Mr. Bungle is back with the upcoming release of their 3rd album. The album is named California, because the music is a lot like the state. "Mostly sunny with natural disasters thrown in for good measure." Also, I have been told that FNM fans that disliked Mr. Bungle in the past might actually like this album. Mr. Bungle's California is set to be released on June 22nd, 1999 by Warner Brothers Records.

FNM Members Start Labels

Billy Gould has started his own label, called "Kool Arrow Records" This is what Billy had to say about it in a recent interview:

"I'm also in the process of starting an indie label right now, called Kool Arrow Records. The way it's looking, it's going to be a cross-cultural label that's going to deal with American bands, Mexican bands, Mexican American bands, etc. We're looking to release a compilation right off the bat, called "Spanglish 101", that will include bands from the US, Mexico, and possibly Spain and Argentina. It will also contain new Brujeria unreleased tracks from their forthcoming album."

Mike Patton and his manager, Greg Werckman, have also started their own record label, called Ipecac Records. Here's what Patton had to say about the label a couple of months ago:

"It will be a very artist-friendly label, the only stipulation is that we will only work with friends, I wouldn't be doing it without Greg, I've had ideas like this before that have never gone past the dinner table, but he's a guy I'd trust to make it happen."

Look for these 1999 releases from Ipecac Records:

  • Fantmas (self-titled full-length debut)
  • Maldoror (Mike Patton w/ Merzbow)
  • The Melvins (3 full-length releases)
  • Several other top secret projects

Tribute Includes Mike Patton's Fantmas

Fantmas' first commercial release appears on the Great Jewish Music - Marc Bolan CD with their T-Rex cover, Chariot Choogle. But this is not the current incarnation of Fantmas. This track is Mike Patton performing all instruments and vocals, recorded in his home studio. It is taken from the demo tape that Patton sent to Dave Lombardo, Buzz Osbourne and Trevor Dunn when contracting musicians to form what is now known as Fantmas.
